Lyrics for ‘Giver of Light’

This project is a love letter to my children and a gift from my children! They asked to hear my music. What a gift of love to me. That is how this project began. Love.

God is Love! I am loved, I am here because I am loved. Every word of these songs tells the love story that God is writing to his children, about his children, for his children. They tell my version of understanding and responding to his care. These songs are prayers that are drenched in hope and commitment to honor the love that has flowed through my life.

Lyrics for ‘Giver of Light’

1. Giver of Light (Charlie Pray, vocals)

Giver of light, author of love,
My spirit filled with holy flame as you descended as a dove.
Everywhere I look, miracles of mercy bring hope in the darkest hour
You have changed me from within, new life rescued from my sin.

Morning sunrise confidence, you’ve provided each new day
And when I hear the ocean crashing on the shore,
I’m reminded of your power once more,
Never ending, always pulsing with abundant life
Drawing me into your light.

I know that I’m not alone, You taught me I am of worth
I am your child, your beloved, peaceful within your truth.

Drawn toward your hope, held by your grace
You are the source of every joy in all of time and all of space
As I walk in faith, you are leading me to trust the wisdom of your plan
From the moment of my birth, you have sculpted who I am.
Let your light shine through each part, witness to your glorious heart.

2. Come Worship the King, Come Bow Down (Alisha Menard, vocals)

Star in the night, shining so bright, Shepherds in dark fields abiding
Wake to this song, Angels have called, sharing great news of good tidings.
Oh how the angels sang, “All will be well.” Never like this has God opened the veil.
Oh a savior is born and our hearts are made new,
So come worship the king, come bow down.

Following long, come from afar, wise men are drawn to the Savior
Bringing their gifts; gold, incense, myrrh, wealth of the world to a manger
Each earthly treasure, all we hold dear, eclipsed by the light of God’s Son shining near.
Oh the savior is born and our hearts are made new.
So come worship the king, come bow down.

And through the night, he is our light, guiding us surely toward heaven
Be not afraid, He knows the way, to the shepherd’s lost lambs he has beckoned
He shoulders our heartaches, our burdens to ease,
and whispers, “I’m with you.” To fill us with peace.
Oh the savior is here and our hearts are made new
So come worship the king, come bow down.

We bow down, we bow down, we bow down, we bow down x 3
In praise.

3. My Prayer for Our Nation (Charlie Pray, vocals)

Our nation is divided, we cannot hear each other’s pleas
With fear, injustice, hate the battle cry.
How can we heal our country, how can we mend the rift
Until we see each other through your eyes.

Oh, let our currency be love, our law be mercy
Our aim, be restoration and our strength be kindness
Our will to nurture and reclaim the holiness of life
That all the world be healed from fear and strife.
Each child, a precious treasure to be nurtured and adored
Each pilgrim fleeing tyranny, find freedom at our shore
Each one, each color, all are formed by God’s own hand
Show us the way to truly love our fellow man.
Oh let our actions speak the truth, hearts beat compassion
Resources given freely to rebuild the broken
Let power, corruption and control become humility
For all of life’s a gift, from you alone
The whale, the bee, the water and the earth are in our care
With newborn child, and hungry hearts, our gifts we are to share
Help us restore the earth to peace and harmony
God, guide us to embrace all things that come from thee.
And this is our prayer, Lord teach us to treasure the part of creation you’ve placed in our care.

This is our prayer.

4. The Still Small Breath of God (Alisha Menard, vocals; lyrics by Patrick M. Overton)

LYRICS BY PATRICK M. OVERTON:

Breathe in, the spirit sighs in whispered breath
Inhale the source of life, creation new
This is the essence of the first creative’s gift,
An inspiration given now to you.
Breathe, just breathe, it is the gift that brings to life our dreams
So breathe, just breathe
Breathe out the spirit sighs in softened tones
Exhale the myth of who you think you are.
Let go of all you think you cannot lose
And dance creation’s life spectacular
Breathe in, breathe out this is our sacred prayer
That we must pray each moment that we live
A consecrated offering we bring
In honor of each gift of life God Gives
So breathe, just breathe, it is the gift that brings to life our dreams
And as we breathe, unknowingly
We keep the still small breath of God within our souls
Reminding us, what all creation knows
There is no time, there is no time, there is no time, when we will be alone.
So breathe, just breathe, it is the gift that brings to life our dreams
Breathe, just breathe.

Just breathe.

5. A Prayer for Home (Charlie Pray, vocals)

Lord, I want my home to be a place where I can truly see your grace,
A light set on a hill.
Where faith is where I rest, and where I know that I am blessed each day
I find that you are real
You have given me a home and family, a place of contentment and harmony
Where your spirit rests and dwells within
A light set on a hill
A lighthouse that guides you when the storms blow in
A sheltering harbor of calm within,
Where my spirit is cleansed and made whole again
A lighthouse on a hill. ( a light, set on a hill.)
A home of prayer and thanksgiving, a home that’s filled with joy and praise
A safe and welcoming place
To rest, renew and be restored, a place where Jesus is adored
A light house high on a hill
A beam that draws the lost, confused, and turned away
No one refused what one can’t pay, where your spirit rests and dwells within
A light high on a hill
     Chorus

6. A Thousand Gifts (Lily Weimer, vocals)

Oh, I could offer a thousand gifts, games and toys and treasure chests
But it might be a skill or work you need, an opportunity to succeed
Instruction in how to drive a car, a subway pass to a job that’s far.

A home that’s safe and water that’s clean
It’s only a gift if it is what you need
Maybe the gift is that I finally see you, not in fear but in equality, to
See you as you the treasure you are, a mother’s child, who is loved by God

To see the beauty of your soul, to celebrate what makes you whole
Embracing difference as a part of God’s incredible work of art
If we could find each other’s hearts, so fearfully and wonderfully wrought

Then we would be each other’s gift from God, and we would know that we were born for this
To be woven, thread by thread, light and shadow in God’s hand
In the story of God’s never ending tapestry of man.
Oh we could be given a thousand gifts,
And never imagine such a gift as this.

7. Christmas Time Is Here (Alisha Menard, vocals)

Christmas time is here. Crisp and cold the night is clear, snow is quietly blanketing the earth.
Faithful stand in silent, flickering candlelight, celebrating Jesus birth.
Look, the star that led the way to Bethlehem, beckons us to journey once again
Following the wisemen who are searching for a savior
God with us, our Lord Immanuel.

In the snow kissed night, revelers hushed their caroling, knowing that the moment has arrived
Jesus, Lord of Calvary, birthed in the hay, innocent of all men’s crimes
Hushed and reverently we bow with broken hearts, knowing that the sacrifice is great
God with us, Immanuel, meant death to one that’s holy,
Birth and death and love, so intricate.

So love came down at Christmastime, to bring us hope and heal our hearts
To show us that our lives are dear, as God redeems his own creation.

As we gather here, thinking of those far and near, memories of the lives that we once shared,
Sweet reunion given through his precious birth, Jesus Christ from heaven to earth
Knowing that this gift from God was sent for us, showing that we never are alone
Those we’ve loved before, all those we keep as precious treasures
Safe within the heart of God once more.
Chorus

8. Come to Jesus (Wil Merrell, vocals)

In this mean world, there’s gonna be trouble. Reason will fly and passions will flare
Tempers explode and nations will crumble
But through it all, Jesus is here.
He’s here to bring you comfort, here to ease your pain
He’s here to share his wisdom, nothing to lose and all to gain
So Come to Jesus, come to Him, come to Jesus
Jesus is here, come to Him
     to Jesus, come to Him
Come to Jesus, Jesus is here…
In this hard world, as reality changes, love comes and goes, no one can repair
Dreams cast aside for a pittance of wages
But through it all, Jesus is here.
He’s here to bring you comfort, here to ease your pain
He’s here to share his wisdom, nothing to lose, and all to gain,
So come to Jesus, come to him, come to Jesus
Jesus is here, Come to Him
     to Jesus, come to Him
Come to Jesus, Jesus is here
     Come to Him.

9. Solitaire Moon (Charlie Pray, vocals)

Silhouette, solitaire, etched against the sky
Minuet, dance it there, time to say goodbye.
Turn the dance, face the night, winter moon is high
Tears of ice quench the fire, the light has left my eyes.

And I will never regret that you danced with me then
I will never forget that you held me again
I will never look back without knowing the smiles that we shared
I will never look back when I know you are there
But I’ll never regret if you’re there when I do
And I’ll not dance again, without tears for the solitaire moon.

Silhouette, solitaire, etched against the sky
Minuet, dance it there, time to say goodbye.
Turn the dance, face the night, winter moon is high
Tears of ice quench the fire. The light has left my eyes.

10. A Child of Your Own (Alisha Menard, vocals)

Lost and homeless in this frightening world
Not a friend, or place to go
Til you offered love and hope and family
But what have I to offer you?
What can I give to the Savior, king of all power and glory
You’ve given me the keys to heaven, all I have to give you is my heart
But if you take my heart and break it, and rearrange and then re-make it
Lord I will love and serve and bless you, and worship with my life
You’ll take my heart, this broken treasure, and restore it at your throne
And from this homeless, orphan child, you’ll make a child of your own.

Every day I roam this busy world,
Never knowing who I am
Never understanding that you loved me so
Until you took me by the hand.
Chorus
And from this homeless orphan child, you’ll make a child of your own.

11. In All the World (Aimee Joy Weimer, vocals)

Throughout my life there’s never been a time, and never been a place
Where you are not beside me.
Every step, and every choice I make, I know that you are here and never turn away.
You always hear my prayers and listen to my pleas
And hold me when I’m sad, rejoice when I am glad.
In all the world, through every day, there’s You.
In the quiet night you are my comfort.
In the light of love all shadows flee.
In this world there’s never been another who knows who I’m meant to be
For you oh Lord are my creator, You knew and loved me Lord before the world began
Oh light of life, you’re my sustainer, my heart is yours, I owe my all.

Through times of war, or earthquake, flood or fire, or famine, fear and pain
Still life in you abundant.
Not a day when you have not stepped in to point the way toward hope, and lead the way toward light.
You take all anxious thoughts and soothe them with your care,
And lavish love and peace to those who do despair
In all the world, our brightest hope is You.

Through every day, in every circumstance
In life or death, there is no time or distance
when I call, in all the world there’s You.
There’s never been a time, and never been a place
When you are not beside me, Lord.

12. To God Be the Glory Forever (Charlie Pray and Alisha Menard, vocals)

Who has known the mind of the Lord, or been his counselor
Who has ever given to God, that God should repay?
Oh the depths and the riches of his love,
How unknowable his judgements, and his path beyond searching out.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things
To God be the glory forever
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things
To God be the glory forever.
Almighty God, creator, King, our sovereign judge and majesty
Your name is joy, our counselor, author of life, eternal power.
And you’re my Lord and you’re my life, and all my faith abides in You

Who has known the mind of the Lord, or been his counselor
Who has ever given to God, that God should repay?
Oh the depth and the riches of his love,
How unknowable his judgements, and his paths beyond searching out.
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things
To God be the glory forever
For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things
To God be the glory forever, and ever and ever and ever
And ever and ever and ever. Amen To God be the glory forever, amen.
